Cool Software: Last.FM
Wouldn’t it be cool if your computer could keep detailed information about all the music you listen to? Then, you could compare your listening profile to the profiles of other people on the internet, finding other people whose musical tastes are similar to your own, and scanning through their playlists for new music that you might like.
This was going to be one of my own 30 software ideas. Except that, when I started doing the market research on it, I discovered that it already exists. And it has already been done really well.
Check it out. It’s very cool.
And if, for some reason, you’re interested in knowing more about my musical tastes, here’s a link to my profile:

I love last.fm too, it has become an indispensible tool for me.
My profile has captured more than 15.000 tracks already. One of the things I like most is their huge array of web services that you can use, for example for including your current favourite albums on your own site.
What I do often is listen to a station of “artists similar to…” for a band I like, or I search for specific tags and listen to that music. I have discovered many gems that way.
