Twystem is “Featured” in App World

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Cue the huge sigh of relief.

My addictive little puzzle game has been chosen by the editorial staff at Research In Motion to be one of the “featured apps” on the BlackBerry PlayBook.

I say it’s a “relief” because the app hasn’t been selling well. Only 20 copies have sold — at 99 cents each — since the PlayBook launched on April 19th. Since today is May 12th (and 22 full days have elapsed), that’s averaging less than one sale per day.

It’s not like I’ve been a slouch in marketing. The Twystem website looks pretty good, and the content is starting to evolve (though there are still lots of bits missing). I have a twitter account specifically for marketing the game, and I’ve managed to get 67 followers over the past month.

The app has gotten six reviews, averaging 4.5 stars, from the few people who have bought it so far. So the people who have tried it have liked it.

Why then have the sales been so poor? I’m not sure. But hopefully, being featured at the top of App World will make a difference.

I’ll post more info here as I observe the sales trends changing, so that other developers can get a feel for what the PlayBook marketplace is really like.
